Black cohosh extract powder is made from the dried rhizomes and roots of the Actaea racemosa L. (also known as Cimicifuga racemosa), a plant belonging to the Ranunculaceae family. The raw material undergoes cleaning, slicing, low-temperature drying, and pulverization, followed by extraction with ethanol or a water-ethanol mixed solvent. The resulting extract is then purified through chromatography, concentrated, and spray-dried to produce a brownish-tan to dark brown powder. The core active components are triterpene saponins (such as cimigenol, cimicifugoside, and 27-deoxycimigenol), and it also contains phenolic acids and flavonoids. It is a widely used natural herbal ingredient.
